The Cakewalkin’ Jass Band (CJB) will be celebrating its forty year anniversary on Saturday, December 8, 2007. The band’s first gig was Friday, December 8, 1967 at the Bonnie Bar on Western Avenue. The band has played at seven venues in the Toledo area. Well known were the years at Tony Packo’s Café and Lulu’s Storyville Saloon. The CJB now performs the first Friday of the month at Murphy’s Place (Summit and Jefferson in downtown Toledo) from 7 to 9 PM. The celebration will be held at Murphy’s from 9 PM to 1 AM.

It is hoped that many past members, substitutes, and musical friends will attend the festivities. The CJB will be playing its regular first Friday session at Murphy’s on December 7. Weekend lodging packages will be available for out of town visitors.

Over the years, the band has been performing New Orleans style jazz at jazz festivals and clubs not only in the tri-state area but also from California to Maryland and Petosky to Chattanooga. Next year, the CJB will be returning to Madison, WI, and playing a jazz festival in Clearwater, FL, among others.

Congrats on the 40th! I’ll always remember proposing to my (1st) wife and giving her an engagement ring to the sweet sounds of “You’re So Ugly!”
