WENDY’S “FILL THE SEMI” FOOD DRIVE IMPROVES OVER 50 % FROM LAST YEAR

The Managers and Employees of Pertoria, Inc., the Wendy’s franchisee in Wood County and Oregon, have collected over 3200 lbs. of canned and preserved foodstuffs and dry goods during the recent month-long “Fill the Semi” Food Drive, conducted at all 7 Wendy’s locations in Bowling Green, Perrysburg, Fostoria and Oregon. This represents over 5600 items, and over 1000 lbs. more than 2006. Wendy’s owners, David and Rebecca Williams, rented a special truck to collect the canned goods from the Wendy’s locations and deliver them to the Northwest Ohio Food Bank in Toledo. “This food will help families around Northwest Ohio. Thank you so much for this donation”, said Barbara Grandowicz, Director of Operations, Toledo Northwest Ohio Food Bank.

Pertoria, Inc. used an innovative contest to peak interest and employee participation in the food drive. Kurt Chiarelott, District Manager, and team captains in each Wendy’s location developed 30 “themed baskets” that employees and managers could bid on—not with money, but canned food—to win the prize packages filled with goodies and gift certificates from neighboring merchants. Bidding reached 500 cans on some baskets. Neighboring business partners included Coca-Cola, Showcase Cinemas, Kroger, Belle Tire, Dr. Pepper, Blockbuster, The Cookie Jar, Subway, A Taste of Amish, Curves, Hirzel Canning, Papa Murphy’s, Qdoba Mexican Foods, Dei Fratelli, BGSU on Main, Easy Street Café’, Marble Slab Creamery, Mr. Spots, Maumee Bay Turf Center, Marco’s Pizza, Aunt Millie’s Bakery, Pertoria, Inc., BGSU Falcon Sports Properties, Valvoline, Tireman, and Ohio-Michigan Store of Michigan. In addition, many generous customers and local businesses dropped off donations at Wendy’s locations.

The “Fill the Semi” Food Drive is part of Wendy’s Founders Week, honoring Dave Thomas’ 5 Principles of Business, including “Give Something Back”. Dave Thomas founded Wendy’s in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio and now there are over 6500 Wendy’s Restaurants worldwide. Pertoria, Inc. was established in 1989 with units in Fostoria and Perrysburg, Ohio. The company has since grown to 7 locations in Perrysburg, Fostoria, Bowling Green and Oregon, employing over 30 managers and 225 employees.
