Toledo, OH—February 1, 2008. Nationally-known author/illustrator Wil Clay will be sharing experiences from his Coretta Scott King Award-winning career in children’s book illustration at 20 North Gallery in Downtown Toledo, on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 2p.m.

Topics to be covered include his tenth book to be released by Harper Collins in April 2008, A Man for All Seasons—The Life of George Washington Carver (written by Stephen Krensky); his large-scale mural soon to be unveiled at the Mott Branch Library, Catch the Magic…Read! and his master-work painting currently displayed in the 13th Annual 20 North Gallery Black History Month exhibit, Ed Clay’s America (circa 1951).

Mr. Clay will bring sample copies of nine of his children’s books, as well as original illustration paintings from those books and color sketches from his Mott Branch Library mural project.

The talk will feature sample storytelling, the process of children’s book illustration from manuscript to finished book, a sketching demonstration—creating a portrait of one lucky person drawn from the audience—and a question and answer session. “20 North Gallery is proud to have featured Wil Clay for over fourteen years, because he is truly one of the outstanding talents in fine art painting and book illustration in this country,” says Peggy Grant , 20 North Gallery Art Director. “It is exciting to have this opportunity for the viewer to interact with Mr. Clay and learn more about his methods and techniques.”
