YOUTH ART MONTH CELEBRATION
DaVinci’s Gallery in downtown Fremont announces a celebration of Youth Art Month with an art competition for 7th graders from the Fremont Middle School. Nearly 100 art students will have their work displayed at the gallery from March 21 through March 31. The public is invited to view the artwork and vote for the People’s Choice award.
This year’s competition was themed “Looking Through A Window” and students worked under the supervision of art teachers Ketal Patel and Elizabeth Dennings. Art projects will be judged on overall art quality, techniques, and best adherance to the theme. “It’s been interesting to see the creativity of the students and their concepts of what they see out their windows at home, school, or even from the car,” said gallery owner Gary Perkins. “Art adds quality to life, and we’ve been so proud to encourage it in this segment of students in Fremont.”
Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. It was created in 1961 by ACMI, a non-profit association of art and carft materials manufacturers, in cooperation with the National Art Educators. It is their belief that art education develops skills that students will need and use in our fast-changing world, such as self-esteem, critical thinking and imaginative problem solving.
DaVinci’s Gallery is located on Front Street in downtown Fremont and is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 5:30 and on Saturday from 10 to 4:00. The Gallery features prints, canvases, jewelry, pottery, glass, wood, metal, and other artwork by all North American artists.
