Time to Celebrate!

(March 18, 2008) - It’s almost National Library Week, and that means it’s time to get ready to celebrate!

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance presented by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week with festivities and programs for all ages. Each Library location will offer a family-oriented program to celebrate.

National Library Week (April 13-19) kicks off locally at 9 a.m. on April 14 at the Kent, Locke, Sanger and Washington branch locations. Visitors will play games, participate in trivia contests, join a scavenger hunt through the Dewey Decimal System, and more. The activities at these four locations run until the Library locations close.

Other Library locations will host additional events to celebrate National Library Week. All programs are free and open to the public and each location will entertain visitors in a new and exciting way.

For example, Mott Branch is celebrating the occasion with an Hawaiian luau theme, hula activities, crafts, food and more. Oregon Branch is celebrating with a Dr. Suess theme, and West Toledo Branch visitors will enjoy a Curious George celebration. Other locations will follow their own theme and provide snacks and games.

National Library Week only comes once a year, so this is the only chance to catch the fun until next year. Visit a local Library location, celebrate National Library Week, and enjoy everything the Library has to offer.
