National Library Week is quickly approaching, and award-winning artist and children’s book illustrator Wil Clay is helping the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library celebrate in a major way!

On Monday, April 14, at 6 p.m., the Mott Branch Library, 1085 Dorr St., will reveal a visual masterpiece for readers of every age.

Commissioned by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, Clay created a forest-themed mural to illustrate the magic of reading in the imagination of a child. Area children and adults were used as models for Clay’s inspirational work. The removable large mural is split into two halves – one panel is 60-inches high and 129.5-inches long, the other panel is 30-inches high and 180-inches long.

The unveiling of Clay’s highly anticipated work will mark the local launch of 2008 National Library Week (April 13-19). Mott visitors will see the new mural, which will be displayed in the branch’s rear Children’s Room, hear fantastic stories and meet the artist.

Multi-talented artist Wil Clay is skilled in design, painting, illustrating, sculpting and more. He studied at The American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Vesper George School of Art in Boston and the University of Toledo. His noted children’s book illustrations are included in the books “Tailypo!,” “I Am Rosa Parks,” “The Real McCoy” and many more! His Web site is www.wilclay.com.

Clay is currently focused on illustrating children’s books and visiting libraries, schools and professional organizations around the country.

Other Library locations around Toledo will host their own National Library Week events. A schedule of events can be found in the “Explore” section of toledolibrary.org, or by calling any local Library location. For more details on the Wil Clay event, call 419.259.5230.

Mott’s National Library Week celebration is sponsored by the Mott Branch Friends of the Library. The Wil Clay mural unveiling is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
