PERRYSBURG, Ohio (May 16, 2008) – The Perrysburg Area Arts Council (PAAC) is pleased to present a unique, first-of-its-kind Fiber Arts Show on June 1, 2008 at the 577 Foundation from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
The PAAC created the Fiber Arts Show in an effort to educate the public about and to instill an appreciation of contemporary fiber art. A rarely understood medium, fiber arts have evolved over the years from crafts to fine arts. By dyeing, twining, stitching, embossing, weaving, papermaking, and painting, fiber artists transform materials into functional and decorative works of arts.

The juried show will feature 35 artists and over 60 pieces of work on display. Demonstrations throughout the day will include weaving, spinning and rug hooking. Live music by local musicians and live alpacas, whose wool is used for fiber, will entertain and educate curious minds of all ages.

Additionally, members of the Fiber Forum Artists Group will showcase the results of a collaborative project. Several months ago each member of the artists group was given a box of like items and challenged to create a piece of art with it. The resulting artwork represents a variety of interpretations of the raw materials, including a cloth figure, an oil painting of the items and a fiber bowl to name a few.

The first annual Fiber Arts Show is free and open to the public. The outdoor event will be held on the grounds of the 577 Foundation located at 577 E. Front St. in Perrysburg, OH and feature the following family friendly activities:

12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Perrysburg Area Arts Council, the official arts organization of The City of Perrysburg and Perrysburg Township, was founded on the belief that the arts are the heart of a good community.
