EVENT: JazzLoop 2008 presented by Harold Jaffe Jewelers

WHERE: Seven venues throughout Downtown Toledo

JazzLoop returns for its fourth year as one of downtown Toledo’s premier annual events.

Kicking off “Jazz Week” – which will lead up to the annual Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Festival at Promenade Park, June 13 -15 (details are available at – JazzLoop is a one night event designed to promote Toledo’s jazz history and culture as well as the city’s downtown nightlife.

A split fundraiser for the Toledo Jazz Society and Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, with volunteers provided by the young professionals organization E.P.I.C. Toledo, JazzLoop combines regional talent with local arts interests to create an event unlike any other in the area.

“This event is designed bring awareness to the Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Festival, use the arts to support downtown businesses and raise the visibility of local musicians” said Marc Folk, Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. “These events improve the quality of life in our community and make for a really fun evening.”

“We are really pleased to have the participation of EPIC Toledo,” said Kim Buehler, Executive Director of the Toledo Jazz Society. “it is important to cultivate new supporters for our organizations. EPIC has provided us the opportunity to connect with their membership through partnership and volunteer support and we are very appreciative of that”.

From 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, June 6, buses will run a loop between seven of downtown Toledo’s most distinct nightspots, where a unique set of entertainment will take place in each venue. One low priced Loop Band allows attendees to ride the buses at will and hop between venues throughout the event.


The Blarney Irish Pub – Chris Collins and Jazz from the Shamrock Shore
Composed in part of Director of Jazz Studies at Wayne State University Chris Collins and Bowling Green State University’s Jeff Halsey, Shamrock Shore plays Irish-themed and contemporary jazz.

Murphy’s Place – Glenn Tucker Trio ft. Glenda McFarlin (8 – 10 p.m.),
The Murphys ft. Glenn Tucker and Glenda McFarlin (10 p.m. – 1 a.m.)
Legendary Toledo group The Murphys, featuring Clifford Murphy and Claude Black, boasts more than 50 years of musical partnership. Joined by Ann Arbor youth prodigy and Cool Moose Orchestra leader Glenn Tucker and acclaimed local vocalist Glenda McFarlin.

Manhattan’s Restaurant – Damen Cook Quartet
Drum-focused contemporary jazz and jazz standards by acclaimed local band leader Damen Cook

Wesley’s Bar & Grill – Big Blues Bob & The Thin Ice Band
Red hot blues from the heart with soul and swing from long-time scene vet Bob and his band.

Packo’s at the Park – Voodoo Libido
Jumpin’ Chicago-style and Delta-inspired electric blues featuring a number of Toledo music scene staples, including former radio host Johnny Porkchop Dupree.

Rockwell’s Lounge at the Oliver House – Mike Whitty Quartet
Classic jazz with a swing and a groove lead by local gig man, trombonist Mike Whitty

20 North Gallery – Carl Hillenbrand Combo
Hillenbrand offers a fun and unique Vegas-style vocal show in the vein of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bobby Darrin.


JazzLoop wristbands are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event.

Wristbands may be purchased at any Loop venue before or during the event, and in advance at the offices of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo (1838 Parkwood Ave. at the corner of Monroe St. in the Professional Building across from the Toledo Museum of Art) and Toledo Jazz Society (151 N. Michigan St., Suite 307 in the Davis Building).
