The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is proud to announce the debut of its exciting new Sight and Sound project, which seeks to interview pioneering local figures during their lifetimes and capture them in documentary form.

The first person to be interviewed and filmed for the project’s debut documentary is legendary jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks, who is known in the music world as the Father of Vocalese. The iconic Toledo-reared Hendricks, born in 1921, is connected to some of the greatest names in jazz history. Vocalese is jazz singing where lyrics are intended for melodies originally part of an all-instrumental composition.

“People in our community like Jon Hendricks are living legends that walk among us. The Library is proud to launch this Sight and Sound project, which will capture the amazing stories of our county’s own great figures for generations. Viewers will see these figures telling their own stories in their own way,” said Clyde Scoles, Library Director.

The Sight and Sound documentary of Jon Hendricks is currently available in video stream format by logging on to the Library’s web site, toledolibrary.org. The documentary is also available at all Library branch locations and at Main Library.

The Library’s Local History and Genealogy department teamed with the Library’s Information Technology department to develop the Sight and Sound project.
Interviews are filmed at WGTE.
