LAKESIDE, Ohio – A collaborative effort that blends the artistic expression of the Ohio Plein Air Society (OPAS) and the craftsmanship of the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society (LWBS) will create one of Lakeside’s most unique weekends of the 2008 Chautauqua season, July 11 – 13.

Artists of the OPAS will return to Lakeside and the Marblehead Peninsula the weekend of July 11 – 13. This three-day event will host more than 40 Plein Air artists from across the state that will capture spontaneity on canvas. The term “En Plein Aire” is defined as “painting on location out of doors,” or more literally, “in the open air.”

On Sunday, July 13, the Paintout will coincide with the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show as Plein Air artists and children, for a small fee of $2, will paint along the lakefront from 1 – 3 p.m. A Wet Paint Sale and Show on the Pavilion lawn from 3 – 5 p.m. will showcase original paintings that were finished during the weekend, available for purchase. At 4 p.m. an oil painting titled “Lakeside” by Plein Air artist Jim White, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All sales will be handled by the Lakeside Association by cash, check or credit card.

On Sunday, July 13 from 12 – 5 p.m., the Lakeside waterfront will transform into an outdoor showroom of classic wooden boats as these magnificent antique cruisers line the dock and lawn of the Hotel Lakeside at the Fifth Annual Lakeside Wooden Boat Show, sponsored by LWBS.

During the height of the show at 2 p.m., the Richardson, a rare 32-foot wooden cruiser will be christened, giving attendants the opportunity to explore it s restoration. The United States Coast Guard’s 32-foot Cutter will be featured at the dock, and water demonstrations will be made by the Cleveland Model Boat Club.

Built for two by LWBS volunteers, a 16-foot mahogany planked canoe will be available for sale at the show for $2,800. In addition, OPAS/LWBS posters can be purchased under the LWBS tent for $10, along with LWBS logo apparel and new Lakeside flags. Boat rides will be offered on the Lyman and Chris Craft boats off the dock. A $10 per person donation is requested, with all proceeds benefiting LWBS programming.
