Next Thursday, July 17, from 7-10 pm, the Arts Zone in downtown Toledo
will come alive as its galleries and artist studios open to the public.
The Arts Zone Third Thursday Art Walk is a great opportunity to browse and
purchase affordable local art, while getting to know the artists and
galleries of the Warehouse District. The Art Walk, presented by the Arts
Commission of Greater Toledo (ACGT) and artists, galleries, and arts
enthusiasts of the Arts Zone, will continue on Third Thursdays through
October.
Participants this month include: MMK Gallery, 20 North Gallery, Sur St.
Clair, Blue Heron Gallery, MJ Gallery, Secor Studios, Studio 356, the
studio of Jack Wilson, and a temporary gallery at 48 South St. Clair. Maps
with information about each venue will be available at each of the stops
along the walk.
In addition to viewing art, visitors can learn more about an opportunity
unique to this region for financing art purchases. A representative of Art
Assist, the Lucas County program that provides low-interest loans for art
purchases between $500-$2500, will be available to explain more about the
program and to help with applications.
MMK Gallery at 20 N. St. Clair will feature the work of the senior members
of the Ottawa Hills Advanced Placement Art program, the scratchboard work
of Donegal artist Brian Gallagher, the illustrations of Nancy Swan Drew of
N. Michigan, and James Fiorentino’s watercolors of the Detroit Tigers
baseball players, along with paintings and photos by local Toledo artists.
20 North at 18 N. St. Clair will show ARTOLEDO, with works by emerging
artists Jessica Besterman, Charlotte Salazar Betts, Michelle Carlson,
Marcus Nunn, Brenda Price, Robert Rice, and Adam Russell.
Sur St. Clair at 1 S. St. Clair will show glass, watercolors, fiber art
and more by various artists.
The South Wing of the Oliver House will show two exhibitions. The Blue
Heron Gallery will display “Black & White in the Blue,” black and white
photos by Michael Walker. The MJ Erard Gallery will exhibit “Vivid
Motion,” paintings by Joachim McMillan and glass by David Patterson.
The Secor Studios in the Secor Building at 425 Jefferson will be open for
the event. Their resident artists include: Above the Shop Studios, Todd
Albright, Abraham L. Black, Tom Brooks, Alexis DeBeukelaer, Jerry Gray,
Neal Harrington, Ivan Kende, Don King, Kerry Krow, Malissa Kuznicki, Fred
Leighton, Nathan Masternak, MLC Studios, Lauren Pfund, Chris Rogers,
Elliott Rogers, Salvatore Schiciano, David J. Sell, Har Simrit Singh, John
Spalding, Paul Michael Vassar, and Audrey Wideman.
Studio 356, Katina Zilcomo’s studio at 356 Morris Street, will display her
works from the series “Therapy Lockdown Exposed.”
At 19 S. St. Clair, the studio of sculptor Jack Wilson will display his
metalworks.
A temporary gallery at 48 S. St. Clair will exhibit oil paintings.
The Arts Zone Third Thursday Art Walk is a project organized as a
collaboration with neighborhood artists and arts enthusiasts by the ACGT’s
Live Work Create Toledo (LWCT) program. LWCT aims to identify, promote,
and strengthen the arts, artist community, and cultural assets of Toledo.
Last August, an “Arts Zone” was identified as a geographic point of focus
because of the many existing galleries and art studios in the
neighborhood.
The next Third Thursday Art Walk will take place on Thursday, August 21,
and will occur in conjunction with the ACGT’s twice-yearly Meet & Greet
event for local creatives.

I have acquired a lamp that has the name Secor Studios on the bottom. It’s an lamp with Atlas holding up the world on their shoulders. Can you tell me anything about it?
