ARTS GONE WILD LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

Toledo, Ohio—Join 13 local cultural organizations at The Toledo Zoo from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.,
August 8–11, to celebrate Toledo’s cultural instincts at Arts Gone Wild! All activities,
performances, demonstrations, and much more are included with Zoo admission. On Monday,
from 10 A.M. to NOON, Lucas County residents with valid ID receive FREE admission! For more

ORGANIZATIONS & SCHEDULES
ARTS COMMISSION OF GREATER TOLEDO
Hands-on Activity: Friday–Monday, 10 A.M.–5 P.M.
The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo invites you to help create a “found object frog.”
Choose from recycled materials of various colors, and then make your mark on a 20-
foot-by-20-foot temporary mosaic of Toledo’s favorite amphibian—the frog! It’s like a
collaborative paint-by-number, without the mess!

METROPARKS
Coloring Contest: Friday–Monday, NOON–4 P.M.
Nature Talks: Saturday, NOON, 1, & 2 P.M.
History Talks & Crafts: Sunday, NOON–4 P.M.
Get up-close and personal with history, nature, and art with the Metroparks. Discover our
local flora and fauna, learn simple ways to preserve our environment, and hear about
and watch art-making techniques of the past. Be sure to enter the coloring contest and
drawings for Metroparks prizes.

TOLEDO BALLET
Ballet Zoose Performance: Sunday, 1 & 3 P.M.; Monday, NOON
Dancers from the Toledo Ballet keep you on your toes with Ballet Zoose, a variety of
numbers from their 2008 hit performances. Meet the dancers and ask them questions.
You’ll even have the chance to participate in dance demonstrations—truly an interactive
arts activity.

TOLEDO BOTANICAL GARDEN
Discovery Cart: Friday–Monday, NOON–4 P.M.
What’s the easiest way to connect nature and art? Create hands-on art projects with a
floral flair! Visit the Toledo Botanical Garden’s Discovery Cart and make-and-take
memories of your Arts Gone Wild experience.

TOLEDO-LUCAS COUNTY LIBRARY
Puppets & Storytelling: Friday, 1:30–2:30 P.M.;
Saturday & Monday, 12:30–1:30 P.M.; Sunday, 1–2 P.M.
The Toledo-Lucas County Library presents storyteller and puppeteer Joyce Davis, who
delights audiences with folk tales and animal tales from around the world. Laugh along
with Joyce and her furry friends as they share with you the wonder of nature and
literature.

TOLEDO MUSEUM OF ART
Artist Demonstrations: Friday & Sunday, NOON–4 P.M.
Mask-Making Activity: Saturday & Monday, NOON–4 P.M.
Wild things happen when you create art! Join the Toledo Museum of Art for make-andtake
animal masks and live artist demonstrations. On Friday and Sunday, local artists
recreate your favorite animals, and on Saturday and Monday, you can design and create
a unique animal mask to show your wild side!

TOLEDO OPERA
Alice in Opera Land Performance: Sunday, NOON & 2 P.M.
The Toledo Opera presents an enchanted musical forest! Follow The New Adventures of
Alice in Opera Land, as a teenaged Alice meets characters from famous operas,
including Carmen, Cinderella, and Gretel. Three opera singers take on the roles in this
children’s opera that’s full of arias and antics.

TOLEDO REPERTOIRE THEATRE
Seussical Performance: Saturday, 3–4 P.M.
The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and Horton Hears a Who—we’ve
read these books, page by page, now see these characters take the stage! The Toledo
Repertoire Theatre’s Young Rep Cast presents shortened performances of these
beloved Dr. Seuss stories and more.

TOLEDO SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
Glass City Steel Performance: Friday, NOON, 1, 2, & 3 P.M.;
Sunday, 11:30 A.M., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 P.M.
Urban Jazz Collective Performance: Saturday, NOON, 1, 2, & 3 P.M.
Hajera Performance: Monday, NOON, 1, 2, & 3 P.M.
Students from Toledo School for the Arts display their passion for the arts and their
commitment to excellence. Throughout the Arts Gone Wild festival, enjoy performances
by the TSA Jazz Combo, Glass City Steel (TSA’s Caribbean steel drum band), and
Hajera, TSA’s authentic Afro-Cuban dance and drum troupe.

TOLEDO SYMPHONY
Strings Performance: Saturday, NOON
Brass Performance: Saturday, 12:30 P.M.
Suzuki Violin Group: Saturday, 1:15 P.M.
Carnival of the Animals: Saturday, 1:30 P.M.
The Toledo Symphony brings to life Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. From the low
bass of the lion’s roar to the lush cello evoking a graceful swan to the thrilling tune of the
flute as birdsong, visitors of all ages will be mesmerized by this musical suite.

THE TOLEDO ZOO
Elephant Painting: Friday–Monday, 10:30 A.M.
Activities & Animal Encounters: Friday–Monday, 10 A.M.–5 P.M.
The Toledo Zoo presents a promising painter with a trunk full of talent! Watch as Renee
the elephant demonstrates her skills with a brush each morning in the Savanna. The Zoo
will also present feeding demonstrations, animal encounters, and activity stations each
day of Arts Gone Wild!

VALENTINE THEATRE
Audition Workshop: Friday–Sunday, NOON–2 P.M.
Performance: Monday, 2–4 P.M.
Interested in acting? Take part in the Valentine Theatre’s audition workshop for kids
ages 7 to 14. In two-hour sessions on each of the four days, learn how to prepare a
musical selection or monologue to highlight your talents, and then perform for an
audience. Call 419-242-2787 to register.

WGTE PUBLIC MEDIA
Meet Clifford the Big Red Dog: Friday–Monday, 10 A.M.–2 P.M.
Big Laughs! Big Fun! Big Dog! WGTE Public Media presents the beloved Clifford the Big
Red Dog. Hug, high five, or take your picture with the famous PBS Kids character!
Watch WGTE TV for special news reports from Cub Reporters in the field at the Zoo.
