In advance of the highly anticipated November elections, renowned political advisor and CNN political analyst Donna Brazile is scheduled to kick off the Fall 2008-2009 Authors! Authors! series presented by The Blade and arranged by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. Brazile’s talk is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd.

Brazile, the first African American woman in history to head a mainstream presidential campaign (Al Gore), is a weekly contributor and political commentator on CNN’s “Inside Politics” and “American Morning.” She is also a columnist for Roll Call Newspaper and a contributing writer for Ms. Magazine. Her book, Cooking With Grease (Simon and Schuster, 2004) is an intimate account of Brazile’s 30 years in politics.

Born in New Orleans as one of nine children to a janitor father and domestic worker mother, Brazile graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in industrial psychology. She has worked for the presidential campaigns of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Walter Mondale-Geraldine Ferraro Democratic ticket, joined Michael Dukakis’ campaign at 21, and served as the campaign manager for the Al Gore for President 2000 campaign, making her the first black woman in history to serve as a manager for a major presidential campaign. Brazile has also served as chief of staff for Eleanor Holmes Norton, and was the national director of the 20th anniversary for the historic March on Washington.
