Downtown Fremont Hosts Olympics

Fremont, Ohio September 11, 2008- You didn’t need to travel to the Beijing Olympics this summer to experience the team spirit and gold medal fever that is inherit with the Olympic Games. Instead, just come to Downtown Fremont on September 20th for the Carbo Forge Service Club Olympics and you will enjoy all of that and much more. The first ever, Service Club Olympics, sponsored by Carbo Forge will be held in conjunction with the Ralph’s Joy of Living Farmer’s Market and will feature one-of-a-kind Olympic events. Five area service clubs have registered to participate in the event and will all compete to win a $500 cash prize, presented by Carbo Forge. Exchange Club, Fremont Lions Club, Fremont Optimist, Kiwanis Club, and the Rotary Club of Fremont have all registered teams and will participate in the following events: Java Joy Judo, Wedding Gemnastics, Artistic Archery, Sweet Handball, and Trivial Luge. The events have been inspired by local businesses and are designed to promote various products and services that are all available in Downtown Fremont. Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Front and Garrison Streets.

Abby Slemmer, chair of the Olympic Event Committee, invites the public to attend the Olympic Games and cheer on their favorite Service Club in their quest for the $500 cash prize.

“This is going to be an exciting day filled with unusual events that will take place on the street in the heart of our downtown. These unique competitions will not only showcase all that Downtown Fremont has to offer, but will also highlight our local service clubs and the members who do so much for our community,” said Slemmer. “We’re excited that Carbo Forge has partnered with us to make this new event possible.”

In addition to the Olympics, local vendors will be on hand for another Ralph’s Joy of Living Farmer’s Market. There will be a large variety of items for sale from: Anita Toth, Boyer Farms, Drown’s Farm Market, Easter Seals, Ebenezer Church of God in Christ, Eshleman Farms, Family Worship Center, Gries Seed Farms, Heywood Gardens, North Branch Nursery, Otto & Urban, Pampered Chef, Pontifex, Reiter Landscaping & Garden Shop, Riehm Farms, Rimelspach Farms & Produce, Sandusky Co. Horseman’s Council, Sandusky Co. Republican Women, Scents Appeal, Tastefully Simple, The Old Garden House, Tiny Tortes & Treats, T-Jay’s Produce Co., Twin Oaks Hydroponics.

Mark your calendars now and plan on visiting Downtown Fremont on September 20th where there will be gold medal fun, music, food, and of course, great shopping available for all to enjoy. Events run rain or shine. Visitors are encouraged to use the city parking lots during the market hours as parking will be restricted on Front Street. The city parking lots should be accessed from Arch Street and Bidwell Avenue.
