The Art Tatum African-American Resource Center at Kent Branch Library, 3101 Collingwood Blvd., will celebrate the birthday of the late, legendary jazz artist,
Art Tatum, with an evening of live jazz music scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on
Friday, October 10.

We invite you to start this weekend right by enjoying live jazz music performed by stand-up bassist Clifford Murphy and pianist Claude Black, of the local jazz group The Murphy’s. Refreshments will be provided.

For this very special benefit, the Kent Branch Library will open after its regular branch hours. Tickets for the event are only $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Purchase your tickets today at the Kent Branch check-out desk. The Kent Branch Library is located at the corner of Central Avenue and Collingwood Boulevard.

The legendary Art Tatum (1909-1956) was legally blind in one eye and partially in the other, and is still known today as arguably one of the greatest jazz pianist ever. Tatum was born and reared in Toledo, Ohio and is largely self-taught, but did receive some music instruction at the former Toledo School of Music. His amazing tempo, rippling cascades and crashing bass notes still astonish pianists and jazz lovers in modern times.
