November 18, 2008
Toledo, OH – Sweet Claudette, Detroit’s Matriarch of the blues, along with her blues band will deliver some of the spunkiest, sassiest, stankiest, funky blues on Saturday, December 13th at 9:30 p.m. at Mickey Finn’s Pub, 602 Lagrange at Huron, Toledo, OH
Sweet Claudette and Friends, a 5 pc band (Todd MacIntosh, Dan Dekuyper, Greg Manning, Jimmy Borthwick, and Richard Adams), have performed around these parts for a couple of years, at Bluesville and Blues Suite. This is her second stint at Mickey Finn’s. This lively band will shake up the house fo’ sho’. Sweet Claudette & Friends boast of show rules “all you party people must have dancing shoes … or seatbelts.”
Sweet Claudette has been a blues icon in Midwestern states for a few years. She has released several CDs, that include thirty-five of her own originals. Don’t under estimate this band of great players who can deliver great covers too. Sweet Claudette & Friends band were finalist in the 2007 Detroit Blues Society Challenge. Sweet Claudette is in the studio cutting tracks for her fifth CD That Man Has Got To Go, scheduled for release by early spring 2009. It’s different than anything this lady has ever done. WOW!!!! Promises to be her best yet.
Sweet Claudette performs internationally in Burlington and Windsor, Ontario Canada. She’s hit the stage several times with the Alabama Women of the Blues at venues in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham’s Magic City Blues Festival and is grateful for the opportunity to be featured regularly at the Willie King Freedom Creek Festival, Aliceville, Alabama since 2005. Sweet Claudette is scheduled to perform in May 2009 at the widely recognized hotspot in Bessmer, Alabama … GIPS.

“Sweet Claudette Harrell is always a treat and she and the band evolve to higher levels of intensity every time we see them.” Detroit Blues Society Blues Notes, November 2008
“Sweet Claudette is to lyrics what Thelonious Monk was to the ivories – rich, eccentric and brilliant. Claudette is a blues angel who can write one quirky and unforgettable song after another. Buy this album if you are a blues aficionado. Or, even more to the point, buy this album if you are a blues performer and need some great new songs to polish your act. Sweet Claudette has turned her back on Maytag’s, but she sure is cookin’ up a storm these days. Looking for fine, fine, funky blues with a big city drawl and a down-home pedigree? You’ve come to the right joint. This sweet lady surrounds herself with nothing but legendary session players who are in high demand worldwide.”
–(George Seedorf, writer) Big City Blues (national magazine)

“Sweet Claudette (Harrell) has an interesting voice … low, breathy, but at the same time strong and clear. Like coffee or cigarettes, it’s an acquired taste, but one which, once acquired, will have you hooked.”

  1. Dan Dekuyper Says:

Claudette is what you say and more in her performances. She is a first class lady who cares deeply about the people around her and the new folks she meets. I enjoy performing with “C” every chance I get. She leaves a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart.
