PRIZM Pastel Workshop

PRIZM Creative Community is sponsoring a February workshop entitled “Pointers in Pastels” featuring local Perrysburg artist Tamra Mielke. Participants can choose to register for a daytime or evening session, with a finish your project session offered the following week.

The daytime session will be held Tues. Feb 17th from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Way Public Library in Perrysburg, and the evening session will be Thurs. Feb. 19th, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Maumee Library Community Room. A Make-up or Finish your project Session will be offered the following Tues. evening Feb. 24th from 6-8:30 p.m. for those who would like instructor input in completing their project. Cost for the 1-3 sessions will be $15.00 for PRIZM members or $25.00 for PRIZM guests.

Participants are asked to come to class with the required supplies and a light sketch in charcoal or pastel (not graphite) on their paper and any desired reference pictures. Ms. Mielke will do demonstrations of pastel techniques and steps to completing a pastel project. She will also share specific techniques in depicting wild life and pets. Tamra Mielke is an Artist who has always been involved in art in some form. In high school she majored in art and went on to study fine art at Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University, with an emphasis in drawing and painting. Tamra graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy with a minor in psychology. In the last three years Tamra has chosen to work almost exclusively in pastels. She discovered she had a passion for portraiture and currently accepts commissions for people and pets.

Tamra has participated in many area art exhibitions and won many awards among them the “Michelangelo” and “Edgar Degas Award” for specific portraits featured in Prizm’s annual Art-A-Fair Exhibition. Her donated Pet portraits have helped area shelters to provide for the care of area pets as she has participated in ‘Pet Hoorah’ and “4 Paws Sake”. Tammy lives in Perrysburg with her husband, two kids and two dogs.
