Mud Hens President to Speak About Team Branding

Posted Feb 11th, 2009 by Kelly Garrow  Category: Arts & Entertainment, Toledo.com

(Toledo, Ohio) Joe Napoli, president and general manager of the Toledo Mud Hens will be the featured speaker at the February 20th meeting of the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. His presentation is titled, “Swamped: Branding Mud Hens, Walleye and Bullfrogs.” Napoli will discuss his strategy to brand two new minor league sports franchises – an ECHL hockey team and an arenafootball2 team—that will be competing in the new Lucas County Downtown Arena.

The Toledo Walleye will begin playing ECHL hockey at the arena in October of 2009, while the arena football Toledo Bullfrogs will start their season in the spring of 2010. Napoli, who has been the GM for the highly-successful Toledo Mud Hens since 1999, oversaw that franchise’s move to Fifth Third Field and subsequent shattering of attendance records.

The February 20th meeting will take place at the Toledo Club’s Corinthian Room, 235 14th Street, beginning with networking at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and the monthly program. The luncheon meeting is $15 for PRSA members, $25 for visitors, $10 for students and is open to the public. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 419-867-8792 by Wednesday, February 18.
