The Dandy Lion Gallery in Downtown Clyde will play host to an Art Opening featuring the abstract artwork of Sean Yates. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22. Yates will be presenting 40 or 50 paintings, all of which will be offered for sale.

Yates was born and raised in Webster City, Iowa. He remembers failing art with a “red F” while in junior high school. This was his last formal art education. After high school, Yates joined the Air Force. “After my tour of duty, I found my soul mate, which inspired me to try my hand at art again,” said Yates. Yates began experimenting with abstract, and several years later he still pursues his art. Yates now lives with his family in Clyde and works out of his home studio. “The environment I paint in is very much like a photojournalist in the midst of a hostile fire fight. Due to space limitations, I’m resolved to create amidst an active, boisterous family setting. Sometimes the mood my family puts me in is reflected in my work. However, I would not trade the benefits that come with a house full of children. I’m especially thankful for the insights of my five-year-old son. His perspective is often inspirational,” said Yates.

Yates’ work has been featured in several galleries across the United States. Many of his paintings hang in homes across the United States and Canada.

Gallery hours will be 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. The Art Opening is free and open to the public. Refreshments, including locally made wine, will be served.

The Dandy Lion Gallery is located at 109 West Buckeye Street in Clyde. Call 419-547-7280 for more information.
