The von Trapp Family Singers will delight the audience with classics in Lakeside’s Hoover Auditorium at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 31.

Since 1965, millions of hearts were captured with the debut of the movie The Sound of Music, which featured a family of young singers without a mother until Maria enters their lives and eventually marries their father. Although based on a true story, the real von Trapp family differed from the one in the movie. For example, Maria was not hired to be a governess but a tutor for the youngest daughter and she married the Captain because she became attached to the children.

Today, the von Trapp family legacy is born anew. The great-grandchildren of the original Captain von Trapp, father of the famous singing family, whose story captivated the world, continue the tradition of the family’s exceptional musical gift and love of singing. The great-grandchildren are Sophia, Melanie, Amanda and Justin.

The von Trapp children started their career in 1997 after they performed in a stage version of The Sound of Music and today they perform a variety of folk and classical songs from various European and American traditions, as well as timeless classics from the musical.

As a result of their beautiful music the von Trapp Family Singers are constantly in demand as symphony guests. They have performed with major orchestras such as, the Boston Pops and continue to entertain audiences nationally and internationally.

Although they started out playing small venues, sold-out crowds have carried them into some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Sydney Opera House on a world tour that took them to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many other places.

The von Trapp children have recorded five albums: “The von Trapp Children, Vol.1”, and “The von Trapp Children, Vol.2.” Their first and second albums included folk songs of their youth that were taught to them by the older von Trapp generation, along with songs from The Sound of Music. They also made a Christmas album, “Christmas with the von Trapp Children”. They currently created the album “The von Trapp Children a Cappella,” which has been released and is comprised of The Sound of Music, folk, world and religious pieces. The foursome recently released their live DVD to the public, “Live in Concert,” complete with songs, stories and commentary from the older generation, along with history.
