EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Arts Commission of Greater Toledo

Join our Young Artists At Work (YAAW) apprentices and participate in a scavenger hunt for recyclables along an artistically-fabricated cityscape path. The interactive path will lead you to a sculpture of a green tree, symbolizing the collection of these recyclables. You can also create wind pinwheels to further support our environmental “green” theme of the interactive art experience.

Imagination Station

The Imagination Station will showcase the science of sound! Through hands-on, inquiry-based activities, children of all ages will explore how sound is created and amplified. Visitors will get to make their own instruments, see oobleck dance and be amazed as everyday tools make crazy sounds.

Masterworks Chorale

A group of 8 – 10 singers will perform from Masterworks Chorale’s repertoire. Small performance on stage will be followed by roaming through the crowd while singing.

Metroparks

Stop at the Metroparks booth where a tessellation piece is taking shape. Put on your creative hat to contribute your own artistic expression to this colorful work in progress; a hands-on activity for all ages. Take a nature break with a Metroparks naturalist. Sign up at the Metroparks booth for a nature walk, scheduled on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sauder Village

Stop by and try your hand at spinning and carding wool. Visit our Native American Wigwam and make a cordage bracelet to take home. Also, learn about all the ways Sauder Village makes history fun! Pick up information about our classes and programs.

Toledo Ballet

Toledo Ballet will perform select pieces set during the 2009 Summer Intensive conducted by world renowned guest artists. The pieces will reflect a variety of dance forms and include an audience demonstration.

Toledo Botanical Garden

Visit the Artists Village to get in touch with your inner artist! Watch the artists at work and participate in hands-on art activities provided by TBG’s staff and Associate Organizations. Be sure to stroll the grounds to see the living works of art that TBG’s horticulturists have created – our gardens!

Toledo-Lucas County Public Library

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library presents storyteller and puppeteer Joyce Davis! Laugh along with Joyce and her furry friends as they share the wonder of nature and the wisdom of folk tales from around the world. You won’t want to miss her fun-filled, energetic performance.

Toledo Museum of Art

Get artistic through a variety of hands-on activities: create sunprints, as well as flowers and plants using a variety of materials. The Toledo Museum of Art will also present a variety of art demonstrations, including open air painters, glass flameworking, blacksmithing, and panoramic landscape drawing.

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre

See highlights from the Rep Ed’s summer 2009 musical production, Willy Wonka, Jr., featuring songs from the movie, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this family-friendly show performed by students in the Toledo Rep’s summer education program.

Toledo School for the Arts

The Toledo School for the Arts will treat you to a variety of performances, ranging from high-energy Afro-Caribbean, the happy sounds of Glass City Steel, the smooth sounds of Urban Jazz Collective, and TSA One Acts performances. Student art will also be on display each day.

Toledo Symphony Orchestra

A unique ensemble of Toledo Symphony and Toledo Youth Orchestra musicians will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, a collection of four violin concertos each representing one of the four seasons. From the high string notes calling to mind wintry icy rain to the thunderstorm of summer evoked in the final movement, The Four Seasons is among the most popular pieces in classical music. Opening for the Toledo Symphony will be the Toledo Suzuki Strings.

The Toledo Zoo

The Toledo Zoo will give you a chance to make crafts that make a difference for animals! Create enrichments for Zoo animals and for your own backyard. You’ll also see wildlife artwork created by Zoo staffers and Summer Safari Campers and discover new perspectives on animals through our special biofacts!

WGTE Public Media

Bring a camera to take a picture, give a hug or high five, or simply say “hi” to one of PBS Kids newest and most lovable characters, Martha from Martha Speaks! WGTE will have Martha onsite each day from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Maybe the next Walter Cronkite or Barbara Walters is among us! Join WGTE to learn about The Art of Television. WGTE’s own production staff will be on hand to offer kids the opportunity to sit in front of the camera and read a short script from a teleprompter while mom and dad can watch the monitors to see their child on TV!

Also watch WGTE TV this weekend for special news reports from our Cub Reporters in the field at Toledo Botanical Garden.
