Window displays, light parade and Santa’s reindeer take center stage in Uptown Maumee, beginning at 5 p.m. on November 28.

The Maumee Uptown Business Association (UBA) (www.facebook.com/uptownmaumee -or- www.maumeeuptown.com) have planned several winter holiday activities to celebrate the season in this historic, northwest Ohio business district.

The following activities are planned to begin November 28, 2009:

More than 30 Holiday Window Displays will light up Conant Street, from the Anthony Wayne Trail to the Maumee River, and along the 100 blocks of Wayne and Dudley Streets. Many of the window designs are a result of business owners collaborating with more than 30 Davis College (www.daviscollege.edu) students who are currently studying visual merchandising, interior design and graphic design. Through December 24, the public may vote for their favorite holiday window display by answering the poll found at www.maumeeuptown.com.

The Maumee UBA has also purchased, sandblasted and repainted 16 large “Carpenter Holiday Displays” that were abandoned in a local warehouse. A dozen of these displays, featuring images of candy canes, wrapped gifts and more, also have been refurbished with energy-efficient LED lighting, and will be showcased at several locations around Uptown Maumee. The lighted displays can be seen near Red Wing Shoes, 209 Conant St.; near the grass lot by St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of E. Wayne and Conant St; and in front of the former Post Office building (now DECA), at 415 Conant St.

At 5 p.m., November 28, the Annual 5K Holiday Hustle begins at the Maumee Indoor Theater. Proceeds benefit the Maumee Senior Center. At 5:30 p.m., street entertainers will perform in the 300, 400, and 500 blocks of Conant St. until 40 lighted floats cruise Uptown Maumee at 6:30 p.m. The Annual Holiday Light Parade begins at Ford Field, winding up W. Wayne Street to Conant Street, ending at the Maumee Indoor. At 7:30 p.m., parade-goers may visit with Santa and have light refreshments at the Maumee Indoor, 601 Conant Street.

This year, many children will be wondering, “Where’s Rudolph?” Kids ages 12 and younger can hunt for all nine holiday reindeer hiding out in Uptown Maumee businesses. From November 28 through December 23, they will be searching for Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen … and Rudolph! Entry forms for the Reindeer Scavenger Hunt can be picked up at the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant Street, beginning November 24 or visit www.maumeeuptown.com. Prizes and movies passes will be awarded December 26, 2009.

All events are hosted by the Maumee Uptown Business Association (www.maumeeuptown.com) as part of its mission to attract new business, create increased awareness of retail shopping opportunities, and stimulate interest in the historic business district.
