Toledo, Ohio—For 25 years, The Lights Before Christmas has been a holiday tradition for countless area families. In addition to over one million lights and everyone’s favorite Yuletide treats, The Lights Before Christmas also offers some very cool opportunities to take part in the giving and receiving that’s very much a part of this special season.

The Toledo Zoo is your family’s Santa Claus headquarters, as the jolly old elf is holding court in his Ginormous Toy Land, located in the Museum of Science’s Indoor Theatre, through December 23. Stop in and give him the lowdown on what you want for Christmas! (Please note that affordable Santa photo packages are available for sale, and personal photography of your child with Santa is not permitted. Look for specially marked cans of Pepsi and Diet Pepsi for discount offers on photo packages.)

Your family will also have a chance to give great gifts to some of your favorite Zoo animals through the Giving Tree. Located in Nature’s Neighborhood, the Giving Tree has removable paper ornaments that you can take and return with an enrichment item and/or a monetary contribution. Donations will be accepted throughout The Lights Before Christmas. From plastic sleds for polar bears to treats for the wolves and wild dogs, the items that you give will go a long way toward helping ensure the well-being of the Zoo’s animals. Enrichment includes providing novelty for animals throughout the day, and it’s a key component of the Zoo’s commitment to animal care.

The Toledo Zoo also offers Zoo-nique gifts for the humans on your list. Drop by the North Star Trading Post when you visit The Lights Before Christmas. Shopping online has never been easier—visit for Zoo gear, Gift Memberships and more. You can even enroll your proud animal lover into the Zoo PAL animal sponsorship program. The Lights Before Christmas, presented by KeyBank, is open through December 31 (closed Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day). Hours are Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (the Zoo closes at 9 p.m.) and Friday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (the Zoo closes at 10 p.m.). Admission prices are $11 for adults, $8 for children (2-11) and seniors (60+), and free for children under age 2. Toledo Zoo members receive one free visit to The Lights Before Christmas.

The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, please visit or call (419) 385-4040.
