Toledo, Ohio. Gary Pontious, Sr., owner of Toledo Auto Care (TAC), announces the celebration of 94 years of repairing vehicles on Monroe Street. “We are known for treating our customers well and are pleased to be a caring part of the community. ‘Auto repair by people who care’ is not just our slogan, it’s how we run our business,” Pontious said. TAC supports Breast Cancer awareness with one or two drives each year, and collects Toys for Tots every December and Tools for Schools for Springfield Schools every fall. TAC contributes numerous gift certificates to fundraisers for schools, churches and charities, and has sponsored softball and volleyball teams. During the month of March, it held its third annual food collection for the Salvation Army, where people who brought in 10 non-perishable food items received free brake pads or brake shoes. “We also want our customers to be informed, and occasionally offer free car care clinics,” Pontious added.

TAC is appreciated by its individual and business customers. “I began using Toledo Auto Care for all of my auto service needs shortly after I met Gary, Sr., at BNI. It took my husband a little longer to take his car there but, once he did, he wouldn’t go anywhere else either. They do great work at fair prices and are unbelievably customer friendly,” Sandy Pirwitz, a long-time TAC customer, said. “Toledo Auto Care and the Pontious family have provided exceptional repair and maintenance to our fleet of HVAC vehicles for the past 10 years. Their expertise and quick response have been crucial to keeping our service vehicles on the road so we can meet our customers’ needs. We’re so satisfied that we also take our personal vehicles to them,” said Mike Williams of Action Heating and Air Conditioning.

This business originated as Toledo Radiator in downtown Toledo in 1917 and moved to its current location in West Toledo in 1969. The Pontious family purchased it in 1985, and changed the name to Toledo Auto Care in 1990. It is Toledo’s oldest independent auto repair shop and is proud of its A+ rating from Better Business Bureau. TAC is located on the north side of Monroe Street, just east of Secor, and is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
