(May 12, 2011) – As part of the Toledo Museum of Art’s (TMA) Pen to Palette program, where the institution collaborates with local libraries and private book clubs to integrate books with the TMA collection, the Sanger Branch Library, 3030 W. Central Ave., will host Part One of a book discussion series of author Susan Vreeland’s book Luncheon of the Boating Party. The discussion is scheduled from 2:30-3:30 p.m. this Saturday, May 14 at the library branch location.

The famous oil on canvas artwork Luncheon of the Boating Party was painted in the late 1800s by impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The painting depicts a group of Renoir’s friends relaxing on a restaurant balcony along the Seine river in Chatou, France. Vreeland’s book of the same title is an historical novel which tracks Renoir as he conceives, plans and paints the masterpiece.

Part Two of this discussion is scheduled at the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St., with a docent-led tour from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Participants will tour the TMA’s collection of impressionism art with docent Kateri Walsh, as part of Pen to Palette.

Pen to Palette tours bring books alive in new ways through examination of actual objects referenced, studies of period art, or explorations of cultures featured in the book being read.

Registration is required. To register, please call 419.259.5370.
