Independent Advocates releases The Domestic Violence Courtwatch Report 2010 – Toledo Municipal Court
Imagine if the Fire Department was only putting out 13% of the fires, or the garbage was only being picked up 13% of the time. We wouldn’t allow it. We would figure out a solution. 13% of domestic violence cases in Toledo Municipal Court result in a domestic violence conviction.

Independent Advocates will release the Domestic Violence Courtwatch Report 2010 to the media and the community. This report has been prepared by IA staff after volunteers had observed and documented the details of Domestic Violence cases in Toledo Municipal Court for one year. Please join us for a press conference on Tuesday June 21, 2011 at 11:00 am in the corridor between the Public Safety Building and Toledo Municipal Court on Erie Street.
Domestic Violence has been a problem for far too long in this community. The systems in place to treat it like a crime and hold abusers accountable are not effectively addressing the problem. This report will show that 82 % of DV cases in 2010 resulted in either complete dismissal or were amended to lesser non-DV- related charges. The report highlights Judges and the bonds they set in DV cases, as well as conviction rates coming out of the City of Toledo’s Prosecutor’s office. It also addresses security issues in Toledo Municipal Court. The report also includes recommendations for how to reduce the rate of recidivism and how to increase victim safety.
