American Red Cross Babysitting Clinics at Library Canceled

(Released June 24, 2011) – Due to a rate increase, the American Red Cross Babysitting Classes, scheduled for July and August 2011 at Toledo-Lucas County Public Library locations, have been canceled. Classes scheduled at Library locations during the month of June 2011 will still be held.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Nancy Eames, Manager of Youth Services for the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. “This rate increase was quite significant so we made the decision to cancel them for the latter part of the summer.”

Eames said the six-hour program, which is recommended for those ages 11-15, has been held at Library locations for decades. The problem with the sudden rate increase is that some have already paid the required $30 fee, since it is due at the time of registration. New registrants would be required to pay the increased fee of $85. “We didn’t think it was fair for some to pay one fee and others to pay another fee,” Eames said. “So, canceling the classes makes the most sense.”

Babysitting clinics will still be held at the American Red Cross during the months of July and August. To contact the American Red Cross see below:
