New Art Store Nurtures Creative Capital in Downtown Toledo

The Art Supply Dep? will be making its debut at 29 S. St. Clair Street in the Warehouse District of Downtown Toledo on July 21, 2011. The art material and supply retailer will fill a void in the current Toledo market for high quality art materials including fine art papers, paints, brushes, inks, pencils, makers, canvas, and much more. The Art Supply Dep? is looking to capitalize on a large local creative base currently primarily served by large box chain stores in the area. Proprietors, Jules Webster and Dana Syrek, emphasize that knowledgeable customer service and a positive shopping experience are among the highest priorities for the new venture.

The Art Supply Dep? will offer much more than a retail transaction to its customers. “The business model is really focused on community building,” states Syrek, “and will keep valuable dollars in our local economy that are current being lost to out of town stores and online buying.” The store will offer an atmosphere that promotes creative thinking, problem solving, and synergistic exchange that is necessary for establishing a progressive and forward thinking creative community.

The Dep? will feature an art reading room and meeting space, free wifi, gallery space, and a flexible store floor that will be able to support a multitude of activities in the popular St. Clair neighborhood. The store will be open Tuesday- Wednesday & Friday from 10a-6pm, Thursday 10-8, and Saturday 10-3. The store will be closed Sunday & Monday. Hours may be adjusted in coming months to meet customer demand.

While The Art Supply Dep? offers a wide array of materials and buying options, special ordering is available to meet customer needs and desires. The inventory caters to artists, hobbyists, design professionals, art students, and the small business community in Downtown Toledo.

The venture is co-owned by Julie Webster and Dana Syrek. Webster and Syrek, both native to the area, have a common sense of purpose in promoting the city of Toledo and helping the city as well as those who reside in it to reach their fullest potential. The Art Supply Dep? will be a critical component to this effort in bringing artists in the area the materials they need to create beautiful works that allow them to make a living and pursue their passion in Toledo. Webster is the sole-proprietor of a local ceramics company, Shine Ceramics, and a local promotional line, Shine 419. She has a significant network in the creative community and is recognized and respected throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Syrek works as a development officer for the Toledo Museum of Art. The association with a world-renowned institution has allowed her to develop a strong and expansive professional and institutional network that will assist The Dep? in developing local relationships and partnerships.
