Lourdes Fall Music Showcase to Celebrate Environmentalism

On Sunday, October 9, the Lourdes University Department of Music will present its Fall Music Showcase at 3 p.m. in the Franciscan Center. Lourdes faculty, students and choirs will perform the following three mini-concerts.

Opening Concert: 3 p.m.
Lourdes music faculty, students and guests in a variety of solo and chamber ensemble works plus “Save the Earth” folksongs and video led by Michael D. Biscay.

The Gaudete Brass Quintet (Chicago, IL): 4 p.m.
The Gaudete Brass Quintet from Chicago performs brass chamber music with the Lourdes University Chorus. Founded in 2004, the Gaudete Brass Quintet is devoted to presenting serious brass chamber music at the highest level of excellence and to encouraging worldwide appreciation of the art of brass chamber music through live performances, recordings, education, and the creation of new works.

Choral Finale – Songs to Save the Earth: 5p.m.
The Lourdes Choirs and soloists will sing songs for environmental sustainability with a caring for creation. Includes a sing-a-long for audience participation. Associate Professor of Biology & Health Sciences James Minesky, PhD, will speak briefly on “The Year of the Forest” and campus sustainability events at the Sylvania Franciscan Village in October. A photo collage featuring the works of noted Toledo-Area Nature Photographer Jim Hagan will accompany the musical performance. Karen T. Biscay, Music Department Chair, conducts the choirs and Olga Topuzova-Meade is Choral Accompanist.
