The Sylvania Area Chamber has taken Northwest Ohio by storm with its Bench and Potting Pretty Projects. In 2012, The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sylvania Community Arts Commission, in cooperation with KeyBank, The Toledo Blade and event Chairmen Joe and Shirley Gerdenich and several Sylvania businesses will honor one of Northwest Ohio and Sylvania resident premier artist’s – Walter Chapman as he celebrates his centennial year – 100th Birthday on June 1st at the Sylvania Historical Village, 5717 N. Main Street beginning at 6:00 PM. A live auction and proceeds from the event to benefit the Walter H. Chapman Scholarship for Study Abroad at Lourdes University.
The details about the event and honorary chairmen were announced at a preview party on April 19th at the home of Katy and Keith Walker in Sylvania Township. Chairmen Joe and Shirley Gerdenich have been patrons Mr. Chapman for decades and are delighted to be involved in the celebration. Gourmet grazing was provided by Kingston-Sylvania with fine wines provided by Heidelberg Distributing. The beautiful decorations were designed by Hafner Florists.

The event on June 1 will feature gourmet grazing from Sylvania restaurants: Mancy’s Italian, Chandlers, Ciao, Treo, Giant Eagle and The Pinnacle/Central Park West. Additionally donations for the event were accepted from City Q, Kroger’s and GFS. Wines will be provided by Heidelberg Distributing. Additionally, the Historical Village grounds will be artfully enhanced by Keith Brooks and Blooms by Jen in Sylvania and coordinated by Joanna Koenigseker and Beth Bowman. Invitation co-chairmen are Terri Barricklow and Cy Dunlap.
Additionally, as part of The Chapman Centennial there will be a Maple and Main Art Show on June 1-2 in downtown Sylvania. The show will feature 60 juried artists, fabulous entertainment and refreshments. A display of some Mr. Chapman’s memorabilia will be on display at Hudson Gallery. A record crowd is expected both for the gala and art stroll. Centennial banners featuring Chapman art will be on display in and around Sylvania. The banners are sponsored by Mercy.
