Join HFP Racing, PT Services, and the Sandusky County Park District as we bring back the spirit of multisport to White Star Park in Gibsonburg. The White Star PT Services Triathlon will make its debut on Saturday, July 21st at 8am. The USAT Sanctioned race will feature a 750 yard swim in the crystal clear White Star quarry followed by a 20k (12.4 miles) bike on the country roads around the park and finishing with a flat two lap 5k trail run. This race is the perfect first timer event or a flat and fast PR opportunity for the veteran triathlete.

So what IS a sprint triathlon? A Sprint Distance Triathlon consists of 3 open water swim, a 12.4 mile (20K) bike, and a 3.1 mile run. This distance is popular because it is less overwhelming than an Ironman race, where the competitors have to swim 2.4 miles in the ocean, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles. The shorter sprint distance can be completed in around 2 hours or less. Both men and women are able to compete. Another option is to compete as a relay team, and teams of two to three participants competing together as a relay team are welcome and will have a separate awards category as well. The venue (White Star Park Quarry) is unique because it provides clean, clear, algae and seaweed-free water for the swim. This is a huge plus for athletes as many races offer muddy, cloudy water and detract from the participants willing to take the plunge. The bike portion will take place on county roads with crossroads well maintained for the safety of the athletes. The run portion will take place on the well-maintained wooded trails that have been used by the cross country team as well as hikers and nature enthusiasts. The shady trails will offer a cool break from the summer sun. The post race party for athletes will be catered by Subway-Eat Fresh, and Lisa’s Café and Creamery.

2012 marks the 40th anniversary of PT Services Rehabilitation, Inc. This event will commemorate their motto of “Excellence In Motion,” and celebrate their long-standing commitment to promoting health, wellness, and fitness in Northwest Ohio.
