Tuesday, July 10, 10:00 am, in the lobby of One Government Center, Live Well Greater Toledo, a group of business and community leaders with a common goal of making it easier for people in our community to make healthy choices, like being able to walk and ride their bikes safely and more often, or finding fruits and vegetables for their families within their neighborhoods, will share what the Live Well group has been doing since it began in 2011 to improve health within our community.
According to the annual report by the University of Wisconsin Population Health and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Lucas County’s health outcomes ranking among Ohio’s 88 counties was 72nd. “There is a great opportunity for improvement,” says Todd Tibbits, YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo President and CEO and Live Well spokesperson. “We need to create opportunities for our community to have healthier food, be able to walk and bike in their neighborhood, provide safe places for kids to play, and feed kids healthier food which leads to a healthier community. We can’t do this work alone and must work together. We have a call to action.”
One of the Live Well Greater Toledo successes has been “The Walking School Bus”, providing a safe route for children to walk in groups to school with adult volunteers.
Live Well Greater Toledo will also announce the upcoming screening of the HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation” on Wednesday, July 25 from 6 – 9 pm. at Owens Corning World Headquarters. The film offers an in-depth look at obesity and will be followed by a discussion focused on local and national solutions. A group of business and community leaders, as well as people from the audience, will share ideas on how to help our families, friends and neighbors become healthier.
