LHS was founded on August 6, 1860, in the days leading up to the Civil War. The Society’s ministry began as a home for orphans, but expanded to include care of the elderly when the Toledo campus opened in 1906. Today, more thatn 2,300 youth and elderly located throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are benefitting from the Society’s residential and community services.
