Imagination Station Celebrates Navy Week

Imagination Station is proud to be participating in Toledo’s Navy Week by hosting a series of activities, August 21-26.

All military personnel and their family will receive free admission to Imagination Station during Navy week with proper military ID.

Tuesday, August 21
Official Visit – 11:30am – Tuesday only
Ms. Carla E. Lucchino, Assistant for Administration, Department of the Navy, will visit Imagination Station, accompanied by Toledo’s Deputy Mayors, Mr. Steve Herwat and Mr. Thomas Crothers for a tour of Toledo’s science center, followed by a discussion with Imagination Station leaders about the importance of STEM education in Toledo and in regard to the Navy.

EOD Demonstrations – Tuesday only
Members of the Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) will be on hand doing demonstrations throughout the afternoon to show visitors the robots and suits used to disarm explosives. Visitors can try on equipment and talk with the sailors about their experiences and career opportunities within the naval force.

Hands-on Activities – 10am-5pm (Tuesday – Sunday)
Active U.S. Sailors will be on hand facilitating activities with visitors that focus on a variety of naval occupations. Sailors will also be talking with visitors about the variety of occupational choices available in the Navy. Activities include: Heart Pumps – Healthcare; Sound Sandwiches – Arts & Education; Safety Equipment – Service & Safety; Cartesian Divers – Special Warfare & Special Operations; Straw Towers – Engineering and Applied Science; Gliders – Aviation.

Navy Flight Simulator – 10am-5pm (Tuesday & Wednesday)
Visitors can take a ride on the Navy Flight Simulator, a 12-passenger mobile unit that features live-action Navy films programmed to move in sync with point-of-view imagery presented on a large screen. The simulator purpose is to gives interested recruits a firsthand, interactive experience they won’t forget. Visitors can climb aboard and see for themselves what it’s all about.

Naval Suburban 10am-5pm (Tuesday & Wednesday)
Step inside the Naval Suburban for a variety of naval themed games and experiences.

Additional activities will be taking place throughout the week, including the continuation of the hands-on activities with active Navy sailors, the simulator and suburban and the Navy Band will make an appearance.

Imagination Station, located on the downtown Toledo riverfront, is a science center dedicated to delivering science and technology based programming to youth and their families throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
