Gary Pontious, Jr., owner of Toledo Auto Care (TAC), announces its upcoming fundraiser for the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. “We are known for treating our customers well and are pleased to be a caring part of the community. ‘Auto repair by people who care’ is not just our slogan, it’s how we run our business,” Pontious said. “On 10/10 (Wednesday, October 10), we will donate 10% of our sales to the local Susan G. Komen organization.”
TAC supports Breast Cancer awareness with one or two drives each year, and collects Toys for Tots every December and Tools for Schools for Springfield Schools every fall. TAC contributes numerous gift certificates to fundraisers for schools, churches and charities. It has held several food-collection drives for Salvation Army and has sponsored softball and volleyball teams.
Mary J. Westphal, Executive Director of Komen Northwest Ohio, comments that “The Komen Northwest Ohio Affiliate values our friends at Toledo Auto Care. This event will help raise funds that directly impact local women who are uninsured and at risk for breast cancer. The funds will support mammograms and educational outreach. Please join us at Toledo Auto Care on October 10th, and save lives in the fight against breast cancer.” The first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in our area was held in 1994, and the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1999.
Toledo Auto Care originated as Toledo Radiator in downtown Toledo in 1917 and moved to its current location in West Toledo in 1969. The Pontious family purchased it in 1985 and changed the name to Toledo Auto Care in 1990. It is Toledo’s oldest independent auto repair shop and is proud of its A+ rating from Better Business Bureau. TAC is located on the north side of Monroe Street, just east of Secor, and is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
