The Toledo Rep’s second Main Stage production of their 80th Anniversary Season, Paul Rudnick’s hilarious comedy I Hate Hamlet is scheduled to play the Rep’s Tenth Street Stage November 9 through the 18.
Directed by theatre veteran Barbara Barkan, I Hate Hamlet follows the mishaps of Andrew Rally, a handsome soap opera actor from LA whose agent has decided to help reinvigorate his client’s stagnant acting career by landing him the greatest role an actor could ever hope for; that of Hamlet, in New York City’s Shakespeare in the Park no less. There’s just a tiny problem. Andrew hates the play. To make matters worse, (or better) Mr. Rally just so happens to rent a New York apartment once occupied by the greatest Shakespearean actor of all time, John Barrymore. And of course, Mr. Barrymore has not yet left the building. Well at least his ghost hasn’t anyway. It’s a laugh-a-minute as Andrew attempts to fulfill his destiny against the slings and arrows of outrageous comedy. Has he got a ghost of a chance?
Starring in this hysterical salute to Shakespeare and all those who love him or hate him is John DuVall, Samanthia Rousos, Marissa Rex, Pat Strobl, Nick Morgan, and Larry Farley.
