Families Invited to Snooze at the Toledo Zoo

Posted Jan 30th, 2013 by Andi Norman  Category: Arts & Entertainment, Toledo.com

Kids love sleepovers. But the Toledo Zoo’s Family Zoo Snoozes offer something a little more fun – and wilder — than the usual movie and sugar buzz.

Traditionally, overnight Zoo Snoozes have been open to youth groups of 25 people or more. In 2013, though, the Zoo is expanding its Snoozes.

Families with children as young as age 5 report to the Zoo after hours on a Friday or Saturday night, bringing sleeping bags and other overnight needs. The fast-paced evening includes animal interaction, keeper talks, exclusive tours, meals and more. After the final evening program, it’s time to bed down for the night; accommodations vary from sleeping in the Forest Room of Nature’s Neighborhood to camping in tents on the grounds.

Each Snooze has a theme that directs animal interactions, tours and more. The 2013 schedule for Family Zoo Snoozes features:

April 6 Playful Primates
May 11 Animal Moms
June 15 Animal Dads
July 19 G’night, Mate!
August 17 Dog Days of Summer
September 13 Trunk & Bunk
October 12 Night Tracks
November 1 Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies

Pre-registration is required, and the year’s Zoo Snoozes are expected to fill fast. To register or get more information, visit toledozoo.org/snooze or call 419.385.5721, extension 2042.

The Toledo Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, please visit toledozoo.org or call 419.385.4040. Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. ID showing proof of residency is required.

The Toledo Zoo is committed to inspiring others to join in caring for animals and conserving the natural world. As part of that mission, the Toledo Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation. AZA member institutions are dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for visitors and a better future for all living things.
