Toledo School for the Arts Prepares for Major Week

TOLEDO, OH- Toledo School for the Arts hosted their annual New Student Open House on Saturday, January 26th to record attendance. Over 600 visitors came to enjoy student and parent led tours, meeting with teachers, performances, a student organization fair, gallery exhibitions, performances, sessions with the Director and Board President, and to obtain enrollment information.

“We are thrilled with the turn out of this weekend’s event,” explained TSA Director Martin Porter. “Attendance was nearly double that of last year, attributed not only to the school’s success, but the word of mouth from our students and parents who are so passionate about the education offered.”

In December, the school announced expansion at the high school level. TSA plans to grow by 60 additional students in 2013-14. “This is an exciting time. In the past, we have only been able to accept a handful of students into each high school class. The chance of acceptance for applicants is exponentially greater and the positive energy felt at Open House was a direct result,” noted TSA Principal Nick Mariano.

Those who were unable to attend Open House have one more chance to view the school before the application deadline. First Friday will be held on February 1st at 9am. The event is open to the public and features performances and student-led school tours. Friday also marks the opening of the Faculty Exhibition in TSA’s Gallerie 333 and Black History Exhibit in Gallery on Third. Applications will be available for pick-up, and completed applications may also be dropped off that day. TSA is located at 333 14th Street, between Madison and Adams, in downtown Toledo.

Applications for TSA’s 2013-14 School Year must be in and complete no later than February 6th, 2013, in order for the potential student to be included in the March 1st lottery.

Other upcoming events include Plans Drawn in Pencil on January 31st at 7pm. The show will be held at Owens Community College Center for the Fine and Performing Arts and features comic books brought to life by dancers from the Studio of Kerri Wilde. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for students/seniors, obtained by calling 419.246.8732×226. Also for sale is “The Importance of Being Earnest,” an Oscar Wilde play to be produced at the Toledo Repertoire’s 10th Street Theater from February 7th through the 9th. TSA produces over 130 events per year, with full listings available at ts4arts.org and Toledo.com.

Toledo School for the Arts is a grades 6-12 charter school in downtown Toledo.
