Pro Musica will host its sixth annual “Coffee and Classics” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 23) in the atrium of the Wood County District Public Library at 215 N. Main St. in downtown Bowling Green.

The public is invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and a morning chamber music concert featuring music students from Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts. Students performing have been recipients of travel grants funded through Pro Musica at the college.

The program will include: “Sonatine” by Pierre Sancan (cq), performed by flutist Laura Pillman and pianist Xueli Liu; “Rucke di Guck” (cq) by Giancinto Scelsi (cq), featuring Pillman on piccolo and Xiao Han (cq) on soprano saxophone; “Sonata in A Major for flute and piano” by Cesar Franck performed by flutist Gabriella Roderer and pianist Emily Odgren; and works of Frederic Chopin played by pianist Lauren Adja Tian.

Pillman, from Rochester, N.Y., and Roderer, from New York City, study with Conor Nelson, assistant professor of flute. Odgren, from Berwick, Pa., and Tian, from Los Angeles, study with Thomas Rosenkranz, assistant professor of piano. Liu is from China and studies with Robert Satterlee, associate professor of piano. All are graduate students at the college.

Han, a junior music performance major from China, studies with Distinguished Artist Professor John Sampen.

For nearly 30 years Pro Musica, funded by nearly 300 alumni, friends, parents and members of the Bowling Green community, has sponsored a wide variety of musical events and provided financial support to music students for educational travel projects. In addition, the organization provides funding for scholarships and various awards at the college.

The concert is free and open to the public.

In March, Pro Musica will provide sponsorship for the seventh annual Bowling Green Chamber Music Competition in Bryan Recital Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center on the Bowling Green campus.
