Best-selling social media author to visit BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Social media is becoming an essential component of many company’s business strategies. Erik Qualman, social media expert and best-selling author, is coming to Bowling Green State University on April 12, 2013 as part of the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship. The event, “Social Economics: Adding Value to Business with Social Media,” offers tips to help companies and individuals launch or expand a social media strategy. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

Now in its tenth year, the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship brings innovative entrepreneurial leaders to the Great Lakes Region. This year’s keynote speaker, Erik Qualman, is the author of Socialnomics: How social media transforms the way we live and do business, which made Amazon’s #1 Best Selling List for the U.S., Japan, U.K., Canada, Korea and Germany. Often called a Digital Dale Carnegie, Qualman is a Top 50 MBA Professor and former Head of Marketing at Travelzoo.

This year’s event also features an panel of social media experts, including Shannon Paul, Vice President, Social Media Strategist, Fifth Third Bancorp; Kim Garretson, Co-Founder and Innovation Ventures Partner, Ovative/Group; Mike Osswald, VP, Experience Innovation, Hanson; and Meredith Soleau, HR Director, Ed Schmdidt Auto, Inc.

The Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship is part of Entrepreneurship Week (E-Week), April 8-12, 2013, hosted by the Dallas-Hamilton Center and College of Business. This week celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit with interactive community events, many which are free, such as Dallas-Hamilton Connect, a social media and networking event, on April 12 at 1:30 p.m. and “The Hatch” on April 10 from 7-9 p.m. Similar to the TV show Shark Tank, during “The Hatch” students will present ideas to a panel of investors as they vie for start-up funds for their business ideas.

Additional business leaders will also be on campus during E-Week. The kick-off breakfast on April 8 features

Skyler Rogers, Co-Founder of NiceShirt.org and a BGSU alum. Lunch events include: Gene Poor, Founder and Chief Imagination Officer, LifeFormations on April 8; Dan Slifko, President and Director, Rocket Ventures on April 9; and Matt Miller, student and Founder of Magnetag on April 10. The breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m. in 109 Business Administration Building and the lunches are 12:30-2 p.m. in the Hub, 2nd Floor, Business Administration Building.
