Father’s Day Fun at the Toledo Zoo

Posted Jun 6th, 2013 by Andi Norman  Category: Community Interest, Toledo.com

The Toledo Zoo has been creating great family memories for generations, so it makes sense to spend Sunday, June 16 — Father’s Day — making a few new memories at the region’s top attraction. And with free admission for dads whose kids bring them to the Zoo, there’s even more reason to make the Toledo Zoo your family’s destination.

All day long, your Zoo offers cool sports-themed games and activities, free with your regular Zoo admission. Plus you can treat Dad to a special BBQ lunch for a separate fee (Toledo Zoo members get discounts). Seating times for the BBQ lunch are 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. This lunch fills up fast, so call 419.385.5721, extension 6001, to reserve your space. If a BBQ time still has available seating, walk-ins will be admitted, but pre-scheduled reservations will be seated first. Visit toledozoo.org/fathersday for more information.

While you’re at the Zoo, don’t miss Wild Walkabout, sponsored by Mercy, which takes you to the fascinating natural world of Australia. Your adventure starts with a walk-through wallaby exhibit and continues with dingoes, cassowaries and more. In the Reptile House, check out the huge saltwater crocodile brought here by Block Communications, Inc. – at 17 feet long, the largest in North America! — along with some of Australia’s deadliest snakes. Or relax in the Museum of Science with a Great Barrier Reef exhibit that showcases the intrigue of Australia’s coastal waters.

And if that weren’t enough, the Zoo’s twin polar bear cubs, Suka and Sakari, are on exhibit daily at the Arctic Encounter. Travel from Africa to Australia to the Arctic with your dad – all in one day at your Toledo Zoo.
