Registration is underway for a special series of health-related classes at Way Library. Healthy U is a chronic disease self-management program developed by researchers at Stanford University and will be presented by Mercy. Participants will meet once a week for 6 weeks for an interactive two and a half hour session. Classes begin September 19, 2013 from 9:30 to noon at Way Public Library in Perrysburg, Ohio. This program is free. Registration is required prior to September 16 by calling 419-251-6372.
Healthy U is a small group workshop for people with long term health challenges such as asthma, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and other conditions. Participants will gain confidence and new skills to better manage their chronic conditions and feel healthier. The workshops are led by two trained leaders who have a chronic disease themselves.
Classes are highly participatory and provide practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue and depression. In addition, participants will discover ways to be more physically active, find out how to eat healthier, learn better ways to talks with their doctor and family about their health, set personal goals, and find ways to relax and deal with stress.
Healthy U is made possible by Mercy, Way Public Library and the Area Office on Aging of Northwest Ohio, Inc. in cooperation with the Administration on Aging, the National Council on Aging, the Ohio Department of Aging, and the Ohio Department of Health.
