Way Library continues its Reel Art and Foreign Film Series with “The Butterfly,” described by the Los Angeles Times as “an exceptionally satisfying film of much grace and beauty.”
“The Butterfly” is the touching story of an unlikely friendship between Julien, an elderly entomologist, and his neighbor Elsa, the beguiling only child of an inattentive young mother. Julien’s well-planned excursion to find the rare and elusive “Isabella” butterfly takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that Elsa has surreptitiously invited herself along with him. As the odd pair hike through the scenic Alpine hills and experience the wonders of nature together, their friendship blooms. When Elsa’s mother notices her daughter is missing, however, the tension escalates, while in the wilderness Elsa has become separated from Julien. This engaging film imparts its life lesson with humor, warmth and tenderness.

This French film with English subtitles will be shown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20 in the Mercy Family Activity Room on the library’s main level. No reservations are required, and admission and refreshments are free.

The Reel Art film series is sponsored by Waterford Bank, N.A.
