New Year’s Resolution to Get Fit? Let the Zoo Help

Posted Jan 27th, 2014 by Andi Norman  Category: Community Interest

The gyms are thinning out, but there’s no reason to give up on that New Year’s resolution to get fit. The Toledo Zoo has a fun way to help you stay on track with your fitness goals; register now for the Medical Mutual Dart Frog Dash. It’s the Zoo’s 5k Run/Walk (and kids’ fun run) on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

Registering now gives you time to condition for this springtime course, even if you’ve never run or walked a 5K race before. The Zoo will help you every step of the way, with regular tips on training, nutrition and more – right up to race day. You’re welcome to walk or run the course, which travels on and around Zoo grounds. Make it a family event with the 1K “fun run” for kids!

New for 2014, as an optional extra for the Dart Frog Dash, runners can help the Zoo raise extra dollars to purchase fish for the new Aquarium, opening in spring, 2015. It’s a great way to help yourself and help a treasured community organization at the same time.

Medical Mutual is the title sponsor of the Dart Frog Dash; Dave’s Running is the packet pick-up sponsor. Learn more at toledozoo.org/dartfrog.

The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, please visit toledozoo.org or call 419.385.4040. Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge on non-holiday Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon. ID showing proof of residency is required.

The Toledo Zoo is committed to inspiring others to join in caring for animals and conserving the natural world. As part of that mission, the Toledo Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation. AZA member institutions are dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for visitors and a better future for all living things.
