— Local business leaders have joined March for Babies to raise funds to prevent preterm birth and give more babies a healthy start in life.
We are pleased to announce that Toledo business leader Randy Oostra has taken on the role of MARCH FOR BABIES CHAIR. Oostra, as ProMedica President and CEO, is making his commitment to the good health of all moms and babies in Northwest Ohio.
March for Babies is the largest annual fundraising event for the March of Dimes. Nearly 4 million babies are born in the United States each year, and the March of Dimes has helped each and every one through 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs.
As MARCH FOR BABIES CHAIR, Oostra will play an integral role in raising awareness and funds to advance the scientific research and educational programs at the core of the March of Dimes effort to find causes and preventions for preterm birth and birth defects.
“Working with the March of Dimes is a real honor. March for Babies gives everyone in our community the chance to work together for stronger, healthier babies and make a difference in the lives of millions of babies,” said Oostra. “I can’t think of a more important cause than healthy babies. As a business leader, I know that preventing prematurity can help our bottom line by lowering health care costs.”
Oostra continued, “Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death. In Northwest Ohio, one in eight babies is born prematurely, and that’s just not acceptable. We need leaders in our community working together to help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.”
Last year, the Toledo March for Babies raised $207,000. Mr. Oostra has made the commitment to raise $100,000 in new revenue as part of the 2014 March for Babies total goal of $250,000.
“I couldn’t be happier having Randy serve as our 2014 March for Babies Chair, said Dawn Lyman, Director for the March of Dimes Northwest Ohio Division. “I am sure that Mr. Oostra will bring the same drive, dedication and passion that make him a well-respected member of the community to his efforts on behalf of March for Babies. I know his contribution will go a long way to making this year’s event an unqualified success.”
Toledo residents can sign up today at marchforbabies.org and start a team with co-workers, family and friends. Last year, 3,500 people attended the event — which will be held April 13, 2014 at the Huntington Center, downtown Toledo.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.
