2014 Franciscan Integration Lecture to focus on Pope Francis

In fall 2012, Lourdes’ sponsor, the Sisters of St. Francis-Sylvania established an Endowed Chair in Franciscan Integration within the university. The goal of this chair is to deepen the knowledge of and reflection on traditional Franciscan values and their current embodiment in the four core values of Lourdes University – community, learning, reverence and service – in order to ensure that they are integrated into the curriculum and life of the institution in meaningful ways.

On Tuesday, May 6, Lourdes’ inaugural Franciscan Integration Chair Dr. Patricia O’Connell will give a lecture to close out her tenure titled “Franciscan Leadership for the 21st Century: Lessons from St. Francis and Pope Francis.” The lecture will take place at Rosary Care Center in the Evergreen Room at 4 p.m. Dr. O’Connell will focus on approaches and opportunities for Franciscan leadership for the 21st century and will address the following questions:

– Can leadership in the 21st century be as simple as walking in the footsteps of Francis and learning from his leadership style and lessons?
– How is Pope Francis a 21st century reminder of how effective Francis was as a leader?
– How relevant are St. Francis’ Stuyvesant and leadership lessons today?

Free and open to the public. For more information on the lecture contact Dr. O’Connell at poconnell@lourdes.edu. Find out more about Lourdes’ Franciscan Integration and other endowed chairs online at http://www.lourdes.edu/Home/Academics/EndowedChairs.
