Toledo School for the Arts Presents 15th Annual Kaleidoscope Finale
Public Invited to View a Dazzling Array of Performances at the Valentine this Weekend

TOLEDO, OH- Toledo School for the Arts will open their fifteenth annual year-end finale performance of Kaleidoscope at the Valentine Theatre this Friday evening.

David Saygers, TSA’s Artistic Director, reflects on the humble beginnings of the Kaleidoscope program: “We chose Kaleidoscope as a model for the first performance in the first year the school was opened, because none of our studios could produce an entire program on their own. Several of our staff members performed along with students, to supplement the show. The years have changed us, along with the incredible energy and ambitions of our staff and students, and Kaleidoscope has become a showcase of the best our school has to bring to the stage and the gallery.”

Today Kaleidoscope boasts a routine sell-out of 900 seats per performance, and is billed as “Brilliant facets of Art and Dance, Music, Theatre and Writing- A Dazzling Showcase of TSA Talent!” The show runs approximately two hours and is comprised of the best work by each of TSA’s studios, plus students who have independently rehearsed and auditioned solos and small ensembles. Kaleidoscope 2014 is sponsored by The Andersons.

TSA will again utilize the beautiful, historic venue of the Valentine Theatre- located at 410 Adams Street in downtown Toledo, OH. “The Valentine Theatre has been an incredible partner to us for years, and the guidance of their staff during rehearsal week really aids our students- especially those in technical theatre classes- to gain valuable arts business insight,” explained TSA Assistant Artistic Director Letha Ferguson.

One hour prior to each performance, the Valentine Lobby will open for TSA’s juried Kaleidoscope Arts Exhibition. This show is considered to be the school’s premiere visual arts exhibit, so the students selected to display work are thrilled to be included, and to list this exhibition among the accolades in their portfolios.

When asked what newness has been incorporated into the 2014 performances, Saygers noted, “In the coming school year we officially inaugurate a Creative Writing major for our students. To celebrate, K14 features writing in a way we’ve never attempted. We assembled a team of talented writing students to create the story you will see, and we hope it demonstrates some of the potential that our new Creative Writing major will bring to TSA.”

Toledo School for the Arts is a grades six through twelve arts-integrated, college preparatory charter school serving over 650 students from 23 school districts. The school is award-winning for both arts and academics, and guarantees that this Kaleidoscope performance will reflect the high accolades our curriculum has been given.

Performances are offered Friday, May 16th at 7pm, and Saturday, May 17th at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets run $28, $18 and $12, dependent on seating preference. Sales will be done through the TSA Box Office (419-246-8732 x226) through Wednesday, May 14th at 4pm. From then until show time, the Valentine Box Office will handle all ticket requests (419-242-2787).
