Happy Third Birthday, Lucas!

Get ready for a “pachyderm three-peat” when Lucas, the Toledo Zoo’s African elephant calf, turns three years old! On Saturday, June 7, 2014, celebrations at the Zoo run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m., Lucas gets his enrichment presents, hand-crafted by ZOOTeens and zookeepers. Then at 1:30 p.m., he gets a tasty elephant-sized cake the Zoo’s catering department made just for him. It’s all free with regular Zoo admission.

This “party of ponderous proportions” isn’t the only big thing happening at the Zoo. Don’t miss the all-new Flamingo Key, Penguin Beach and ‘Keet Retreat, which just opened May 23. Flamingo Key, sponsored by Toledo Express Airport, shows off the “avian supermodels” back at the Zoo for the first time in decades. Near the historic Aquarium, Penguin Beach leads you right through the penguins’ exhibit, along with daily keeper-led penguin feeds sponsored by ProMedica. Just a couple minutes away, ‘Keet Retreat, sponsored by BP, offers a fun new walk-through encounter with these bright, friendly little birds.

Visitor experiences like these are just some of the reasons the Toledo Zoo is rated the #1 zoo in the nation by USA Today Travel, and among the top ten family attractions nationwide by FamilyFun Magazine. More information is at
