Hands-on Holiday Gift Inspires Creativity

Posted Dec 9th, 2014 by Mark Bowlus  Category: Business

BiG Fab Lab, LLC has created a Kickstarter campaign that solves your gift-giving dilemma. The ‘Tillie House’ is a build-it-yourself squirrel house kit that will encourage discovery and wonder in ‘Makers’ of all ages and help keep your bird feeder undisturbed by the squirrels. The house was conceived and designed by 4-year old Alyvia with help from her Grandpa, Gary Kellermeier of Bowling Green.

The project was launched on November 24 and will run through December 24, 2014 with a goal of $2,000 that was met in less than 15 days. Kits are available for delivery nationwide or local pick-up in Bowling Green for as little as $19. BiG Fab Lab will be using their new 120 Watt Laser Engraver to produce the kits. Watch the video to see Alyvia and Gary build the original house for the ‘homeless’ squirrel that Alyvia named Tillie at:

The BiG Fab Lab, LLC, a project to create a community-operated workspace or Makerspace, where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate.

BiG Fab Lab’s focus on K-12 education makes a project like the Tillie house a perfect way to support our outreach on a greater scale.  Too many kids are not being exposed to hands-on work; having ideas and creatively bringing them to life.  These experiences must be had first-hand versus online or via app.  The ‘Tillie House’ kit will enable kids all over the nation to enjoy the hands-on discovery process.

“The Lab itself will be for community members of all ages, “ said BiG Fab Lab founder Mark Bowlus. “For the price of a gym membership, anyone with an idea, project or inspiration will have the place to make his or her dream a reality. You will find all the tools, classes, expertise and encouragement in one place.”

The BiG Fab Lab is garnering support and plans to open the facility in 2015. For more information visit the website at www.bigfablab.com.
