UT choral ensemble students will soon see a new face conducting them. The University of Toledo Department of Music today announced the hiring of its next Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Bradley Pierson. He replaces Dr. Stephen Hodge who retired at the end of spring semester.

Dr. Pierson will be joining the faculty this fall after serving most recently in this same role at Western Illinois University, and for six years in the Las Vegas Public Schools. Department of Music interim chair, Dr. Jason Stumbo says, “Dr. Pierson has an impressive record of success and a variety of experiences that makes him well-suited for our position, our students, and our community.” In 2012, Brad founded whateverandeveramen., a project-based choral ensemble which is focused on breaking down the traditional audience/performer paradigm by creating unique, and non-traditional performance events. http://www.whateverchoir.org/

The search for a candidate with documented, significant success as both an artist/performer and a music educator was no small task. The search committee vetted more than 40 candidates for the position. Dr. Stumbo and the search committee are confident they have found the right fit for UT in Dr. Pierson. “He will build on the significant work of Dr. Hodge, and take the UT Choral Program to new heights,” Dr. Stumbo added.
